100 Year
Commemorative
Dinner

The S.S. Princess Sophia struck
Vanderbilt Reef just north of
Juneau on October 24, 1918,
on her way from Skagway to
Vancouver, BC. She sank on
October 25 with the loss of
everyone aboard, about 350
souls, in stormy weather with
fog, snow and 50 knot winds.

Sophia events including an
opera, book signing, and
other events. You may also
wish to view the wonderful,
interactive exhibit entitled
the “Titanic of the North”
at the Alaska State Museum
in Juneau through October 6.
The night that the Sophia
departed Skagway there was
an enormous celebration for
the end of a long season up
north and the beginning of a
gentler wintertime down south.
Help support the costs of
various commemorative
installations by celebrating
life and happiness with an
authentic steamship dinner
at the Juneau Yacht Club in
honor of this last night of joy
and revelry. There will be one
seating and your choice of
Halibut or Prime Rib entrees
at the Last Sailing Celebration
Dinner.
